Are you mean like a minx? Are you lean like a lynx? Are you keen to be seen when smelling a rat? Today’s feline is quite electric, no? Purr!
Thank you so much for giving us a moment of your time! If you could tell us who you are and who you play that would be a great start!
Bambi Alcalde: I’m Bambi Alcalde and I play Electra!
Tell me about Electra.
Bambi: She is a soft-spoken kitten, with a lot of fire.
Do you relate to Electra?
Bambi: I do. I think she fits my personality perfectly.
Why did you want to be a part of Cats?
Bambi: Miss Bambi (director Bambi Johnson) was my childhood dance teacher. I have gone to all of her shows. The opportunity presented itself, and I was so excited to get back on stage and dance, which is what I love to do, and here I am.
What does it mean to you to be a Jellicle Cat?
Bambi: It means to be a part of something great. A grouping of wonderful people. It’s like another family. It’s these wonderful relationships that are being built too, being a part of that.
We learn that all cats have three names. Electra is your cat’s ‘more dignified name’ and while we can never know the ‘secret name’ that she calls herself, what do you think her ‘family daily use’ name is? What are the humans calling her every day?
Bambi: I think they would call her Susan.
Do you have cats?
Bambi: We have two. We just got them, actually. Right before we joined the cast of Cats. I was always against having cats because I’m highly allergic, but my daughter held a kitten at my friend’s house and the love that poured out of that girl… I had to give her one. And they asked us to take the brother and we couldn’t say no, so we have a bonded pair. And they are called Angel and Ninja. They get along with each other, the four children, me and my husband, and the dog!
What has been your personal takeaway being a part of this production of Cats?
Bambi: Balancing time and making sure that I make time for myself.
If you had to sum up the experience of Cats in just one word, what is the word that you would choose?
Bambi: Oh boy. Exciting!
