Stick It To The Man: Kids of School of Rock at Scottfield Theatre Company

Are you ready to— ROCK!? How about getting down with nine of the ensemble kids from Scottfield Theatre Company’s School of Rock which opens this weekend? Oh yeaaaaaah! ROOOOOOCK! The rarely produced School of Rock musical (coming to you by way of the Jack Black film of the same title and the incomparable Andrew Lloyd Webber) has some surprises in store for you at Scottfield Theatre Company, not the least of which is these talented youngsters talking the stage! We’ve had some quick conversations- that’s all they had time for as they’re busy trying to be big-band-rock-stars- with nine of the “band members” from School of Rock (and don’t worry, we pulled the four live-instrumentalist-band-members for their own ‘sound check’ article too) Check them out here:

Name: Brady Fiol

Character: Billy, Fashion Designer “he does the makeup, hair, and costumes!”

When asked if Brady had any experience with hair, makeup and costumes, Brady said, “I can do makeup, I’m good at hairstyling, and I know how to sew, crochet, and a little bit of knitting. And I’m ten. I know how to hand-sew and I know how to work with a sewing machine. I have little mini mannequins that I use for holding outfits.”

Why did you want to come out and be a part of School of Rock?

Brady: Well, when I saw 42nd Street I saw how amazing the production was. And I saw some of the Facebook posts, not just from Scottfield but from some of the people who were doing that show and they were all sharing how they had such a great experience doing that show so I wanted to try out Scottfield, because this is my first time!

What’s your favorite song?

Brady: Stick it the Man!

Why do you want people to come out and see School of Rock?

Brady: Well I want people to come out and see School of Rock because I just think this cast has put so much work into it. It would be sad if somebody who wanted to come didn’t come because it’s awesome. And everybody really put a lot of work into it so other people can enjoy it!

 


 

Name: Sophia Libertini

Character: Shonelle, Back-up Singer

When asked if she had experience being a back-up singer, Sophia said, “No. I don’t.”

Why did you want to come out and be a part of School of Rock?

Sophia: Well, I’ve done shows here previously, and I was super excited when they announced this as a show because it’s a fun, upbeat show.  

What’s your favorite song in the show?

Sophia: “If Only You’d Listen” because it’s the main emotional song in the show. It just has so much emotion and feeling to it!

Why do you want people to come out and see School of Rock?

Sophia: The amount of energy and work that has been put into this show is just incredible. Everyone in this show is just so upbeat. The music’s amazing! It’s a really funny show!


Name: Sydney Specht

Character: Marcy, Back-up Singer

When asked if she had any experience being a back-up singer, Sydney said, “No. But I do sing!”

Why did you want to come out and audition for School of Rock?

Sydney: I really enjoy theatre and acting. I’m trying to do more shows because I want to pursue screen acting as a career. And I’m 14.

What’s your favorite song in the show?

Sydney: “I’m Too Hot For You” because I think it’s really funny. My character doesn’t sing in that song but it’s still really funny.

Very cool. Why do you want people to come out and see School of Rock?

Sydney: I think it’s a just a cool experience and I think it’s a very fun show to watch.


Name: Elizabeth Paquin

Character: Summer Hathaway, Band Manager

When asked if she had any experience managing a band, Ellie said, “No I do not!” We asked for a little more clarification and here’s what Ellie had to say!

Ellie: Summer gets her own song as a kid. She’s very professional, she’s very smart. When I auditioned, I used a song that showcased that and I sang like she sang or like she would sing, and that’s how I ended up as Summer and being the Band Manager is part of being Summer.

Why did you want to come out and audition for School of Rock?

Ellie: I’m 14 but I look a lot younger than my age. So when there’s a part that is younger that I can audition for, I like to go for it while I still can. It’s not easy for me to land roles that are suited for my age range. And when I heard they were doing School of Rock, I had never actually seen the show, but I wanted to go out and audition just for fun. I had wanted to do things with the theatre company, I just hadn’t had a chance to.

What’s your favorite song in the show?

Ellie: Probably “Stick it to the Man” because it’s almost kind of like the climax for the show. It’s very fun and upbeat and it’s a very fun song to be in on stage.

Why do you want people to come out and see School of Rock?

Ellie: I want people to come out and see us because this show is not done around here very often. And it’s a very fun show to watch.


Name: Charlotte Evans

Character: Sophie, Roadie/Back-up Dancer

When asked about her experience of being either a roadie or a back-up dancer, Charlotte said, “I have no experience of being a Roadie. And while I’m not a back-up dancer for anything, I am a competitive dancer.

That’s so cool. What kind of dance do you do?

Charlotte: I do every style.

What’s your favorite style?

Charlotte: Contemporary and ballet.

Why did you want to come out and be a part of School of Rock?

Charlotte: I thought it was really cool and I wanted to try more theatre. I’ve been a fan of the movie School of Rock for a long time.

What’s your favorite song in the show?

Charlotte: My favorite song is “If Only You Would Listen” because it’s so emotional and it has really deep meaning in it.

Why do you want people to come out and see the show?

Charlotte: I want people to come out and see the show because there’s a lot of talented kids and adults in it and we’ve been working so hard, so I think that everybody should come out and give us a try!


Name: Timmy Phelan

Character: James, Band Security Guard

When asked if he had any experience being a band security guard, Timmy said, “Not really.”

Why did you want to come out and be a part of School of Rock?

Timmy: I just saw that there was a show that was happening. I really like music in general. I’m in the band at my school.

What do you play?

Timmy: I play the saxophone?

Alto, tenor, or bari?

Timmy: I played the alto sax last year, and I played tenor when I was in jazz band and this year I’m playing bari for a little bit.

Wow. Three of the four major saxes! That’s impressive. What’s your favorite song in the show?

Timmy: “The Children of Rock.” It’s when Ned and Dewey are playing Guitar Hero. It’s just a good song in general. I like it.

Why do you want people to come out and see School of Rock?

Timmy: It’s a good show. I feel like a lot of the shows, like the junior ones with all kids are not that good of a show—like not a strong show, but this is a good show with good music and a good story. And there’s a lot of talented people in it!


Name: Carter Lien

Character: Mason, Tech: Lights & Audio

When asked if Carter had any experience with Tech, he said, “No. That’s why I was excited to do that in the show!”

Why did you want to come out to be a part of School of Rock?

Carter: Because of the opportunity to work with Scottfield Theatre Company and this talented cast.

What’s your favorite song in the show?

Carter: “Children of Rock” because it’s fast-paced, high-energy, and captures the essence of ROCK!

Why do you want people to come out to see School of Rock?

Carter: Because it’s an amazing show with a talented cast and great music!


Name: Macee Skelton

Character: Tomika, Lead Singer

When asked if Macee had any experience as a lead singer, she said, “I have a good amount of experience singing. Including the time I spend at vocal lessons with Ms. LaShelle (Vocal Instructor and Musical Director in the area, LaShelle Bray.)

Why did you want to come out to be a part of School of Rock?

Macee: I wanted to join School of Roc because I wanted to experience something new and more professional feeling and I also just wanted to make new friends and expand my horizon of abilities/challenge myself.

What’s your favorite song in the show?

Macee: My favorite song from School of Rock is probably “Stick It to the Man” because it is such an energetic song that everyone has such a fun time performing and it has a great message about not letting people control every aspect of your life.

Why do you want people to come out and see School of Rock?

Macee: I want people to see School of Rock so that everyone’s hard work and dedication is recognized and for the audience to have an amazing night of singing and dancing.


Name: Olivia Ryan Huth

Character: Madison, Roadie

When asked if Olivia had any experience of being a roadie, she said, “No experience being a roadie, but I love bringing a character to life!”

Why did you want to come out to be a part of School of Rock?

Olivia: I love the Scottfield family! I’m grateful to be a part of any performance they put together!

What’s your favorite song in the show?

Olivia: My favorite song is “If Only You Would Listen” because it brings out so much emotion, you can really put your all into it.

Why do you want people to come out and see School of Rock?

Olivia: It’s amazing!!! It’s a story of being passionate about something you love. It is fun for all ages!
