Secrets are the backbone of society. Everybody ought to have a few. And Frederick has got at least one— Other Voices Theatre, tucked away up off Jefferson Street in the Performance Factory. And that little secret is currently producing Big Fish: Small Cast Edition as their 2024/2025 season opener. Directed by Andrew Lloyd Baughman, with Musical Direction by Lisa Dodson, and Choreography by Donna Grim, this modern-day fantasy exploration musical is oddly charming and heartwarming.

Victory! Guts and glory! They’re a front-page story— they’re the kings of— Frederick! You heard it here first, folks, and the papes don’t lie! Newsies at Other Voices Theatre is a real smash sensation! OVT is on a mission, kill the competition! And they’re doing it right! Directed by Ashely Gerhardt with Musical Direction by Tyrus Mataban-Ward, and Choreography by Kiersten Gasemy, this exuberantly energetic production is carrying the banner of excellence and engaging the audience with their enthusiasm and heart from start to finish.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

SpongeBob! The musical!? That’s right, gentle fish-folk…or land mammals…or whoever you are that needs a good laugh and a feel-good night out at the theatre? (And that is 100% everyone right now, so everyone should come out to the theatre.) That ridiculous and absorbent, delightful yellow sponge from Nickelodeon has his own stage musical! You mustn’t cheat your readers. Ever. Or in this case, your theatergoers. Worry not, attendees of Other Voices Theatre, the current production of Misery won’t cheat you out of anything. This thrilling, edgy, and suspenseful drama— with the subtle flavoring of a dark comedy— may be a departure from the usual productions offered by the company but it’s a stellar performance that is brilliantly set down for an intense two hours’ stage traffic.
