If you’re looking for a little something different this
fall, if you need a change of pace but still want to support local theatre then
The Woodbrook Players have your ticket. They’re actually offering up four
one-act plays of the 20th century all gently squeezed together and
bundled up as an evening— or afternoon’s— entertainment. While the through-line

Stephen
Sondheim is synonymous with darkly themed, intricately scored, chamber pieces
that hold a mirror up for the audience to self-reflect. On the surface, the fairy
tale wrappings of Into the Woods seem to defy that with brightly colored
costumes, unusually bouncy tunes, and a familiar cast of characters voicing a
plethora of wishes and dreams. But do not be fooled, because Sondheim, with

Review: Rebel Yells at Woodbrook Players

War always takes a piece of something. And it’s very easy to talk about dying for your country when someone else is doing the dying. The Woodbrook Players bring a pivotal work to the stage with their Baltimore area premiere of Rebel Yells, a confederate-focused Civil War drama written by Steve Warren. With evocative writing and a sturdy cast to mount the show, the play— Directed by Ron Oaks— captures the final moments of wounded confederate soldiers inside of an army hospital in Virginia just as the south takes its final fall.
